I went to the doctors earlier. I said -

"Dear Doctor, I feel exhausted and insane all the time. And my periods have been acting all wacky. I'm not normally an exhausted and insane person so I think something is wrong. My mum and sister have both had problems with anaemia in the past so perhaps it's that."

(Or something thereabouts, I can't quite remember)

My nice doctor said, "Have a blood test, call this number to arrange one."

So I called the number and eventually got through to a woman who told me that I would have to wait two weeks for a blood test.

Two weeks!

I could have dropped dead by then. Dropped down dead from Sudden Dropping Down Dead Disease.

They'll do an autopsy like on CSI and they'll say, "Look, she had Sudden Dropping Down Dead Disease! If she'd only had the blood test earlier it could have been caught in time," then they'll throw their hands in the air and cry "oh, the humanity."

Or something thereabouts.

*ahem*

Stupid NHS.

I think the only way to deal with this situation is to spend the rest of the day eating. Hand me the Terry's Chocolate Orange Pieces!

(The funny thing was that when I spoke to the woman to make the appointment I had a pen but I couldn't find a piece of paper so I had to write the appointment time on my banana. Writing with a biro on a banana is really satisfying – go on, try it, you'll see what I mean)

I'm going to stop being strange and eat something now….

Wow, that's nuts. It takes me a long time to get in for my annual physical with my doctor (made the appointment last week and the earliest they could get me in was the first week of May), but I've never had to wait for a blood test... it's always just a matter of dropping in at the lab with the requisition from the doctor.

That's what I thought. All they do is stick a needle in your arm and take some blood out - it only takes 15 minutes, I can't understand why there would be a 2 week wait.

...Is there nothing I can take, I said doctor, to relieve this belly ache...

:)

I don't mind needles that much really, but the last few times I've gone to give blood or have a blood test it's taken 5 or 6 attempts to find a vein. That wears thin pretty quickly

It's highly satisfying. Very easy to write on, as well. They should really market the idea...hmmmmm....
