geek is the new cool, luckily
Oct. 20th, 2004 06:24 pmI bought a trashy magazine the other day to pass the time while I was waiting for my class to start. I had a choice between Posh’s Baby Bump, Nadia From Big Brother’s Weight Loss Plan and 50 Stars Without Their Make Up. I decided on celebs without make up so I could laugh at Daryl Hannah, Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow looking dog rough (and they did, *mwwahahahhhaaaaahaa!*) Does that make me a bad person?
I put the magazine to one side to send to you,
shimmerfreak and you can have a good laugh at how badly I did at the crossword. I really must keep up with my celebrity gossip. I didn’t know the name of Britney’s new husband or any of the any of the answers to the reality TV questions.
I’m having a ‘sitting and watching TV’ night planned for tonight. First it’s What Not To Wear and then it’s the programme about how the British Isle was formed, this week it’s about how the Britain was separated from the rest of mainland Europe. I know it sounds dull but it was dead interesting last week. And yes, I am a huge geek, thank you for asking.
I like What Not To Wear. Trinny and Susanna are such bitches. But I always get all teary at the end when the people who’ve had the makeover get to see themselves. They are always so happy and confidant and I just find it really sweet and life affirming. And yes, I am a huge geek :)
There are some new Lost pictures. I’ve only seen the pilot, so I don’t really know how the characters are developing but like the idea of Charlie and the pregnant girl (Claire?) together. I think RockStarCharlie!Dom all mushy and protective over a new born baby would equal me on the floor in a melted pile of Eleanor. I can feel my ovaries twitch at the very thought.
I put a fortnightly newsletter together at work and always include a quote of the fortnight, being Quote Girl and all. This fortnight’s quote is –
The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook. ~ William James
Which I think is a nice way of saying “Smart people don’t get worked up over things that aren’t important.”
Very Good Advice.
And now a joke
President Bush and John Kelly have been captured by terrorists who decide to put them to death. They are tied to a post with the firing squad aiming at them and Bush leans over and whispers, “Have you got a plan?” to Kerry. “Yeah, watch this.” Kerry replies, and then yells “Tornado!!”
The terrorists run for cover and Kerry says to Bush “See, I knew if I made them think that there was about to be a disaster they would run away.”
They struggle against their bond and are almost free when the terrorists come back and take aim again.
“Don’t worry,” Bush says smugly, “I know what to do.” And he yells “Fire!”
