I liked it, but I can understand why some people might not. I read something this morning that said that if you watched it to see what happened to the characters you would like it but if you watched it to find out all the answers you would be disappointed and I think that's true.
I've never seen a finale that has answered all the questions; as much as I love the Battlestar Galatica I was left a bit o_O by the ending. (What was going on with Kara Thrace, what was the deal with the song, were imaginary!Six and imaginary!Gaius angels or what?)
For me "the island is an ancient and sacred place" is enough of an explanation of why weird things happen there. I don't expect to have how worm holes or wibbly, wobbly, timey, wimey things in space work explained to me in the last detail and the explanation of 'it's magic' works for me.
I think that everything that happened on the island really happened, they didn't all die in the crash, the people left at the end lived out their lives then when the eventually died they went to the flash sideways, limbo place to meet up with everyone else. Jack's dad said, "There is no now here" so the limbo world is the afterlife. I think that the "end" of the story was the stuff like Hurley and Jack on the island, and the flash sideways stuff is like an epilogue, but they flashed to it during the show because it's Lost, and that's what Lost does.
I cried like a baby, if I ever watch that episode when I'm hormonal I might need medical assistance. Much weeping for Sun and Jin, Sawyer and Juliette and especially Charlie and Claire.
And I was quite pleased by the fact that Jack died. I've never liked Jack and pretty much wanted him to die throughout the whole show and he eventually did, so it's all good :)
I liked the symmetry of it ending with Jack's eye closing, that was nice.
It's on Sky again on Friday so I might sit and watch it again, I'd like to see it for a second time now I know what happens to see if there are things in there that I didn't notice the first time.
